Good morning, good afternoon or good evening depending on the place from where we are received, I appreciate this opportunity to participate in such an important Conference,

International Day of Girl child

Being born a girl continues to be a huge disadvantage in many countries compared to her male counterpart.

In this millennium finding a justification for such behavior is outrageous to me.

It's like trying to say that we are beings of different species even though ironically baby boys are born to women too.

Girls around the world continue to face unprecedented challenges in terms of their education, physical and mental well-being, and the protection necessary for a life free from violence. COVID-19 has worsened the existing burdens on these and eroded the important gains made in the last decade.

The reality of many girls who lack the right to education and who are later sexually abused or married while still children or who suffer genital cutting is something that we must face and find a definitive solution.

When beliefs affect a human right, education must be the basis for change.

Statistics show that:

• Approximately more than 200 million girls and women worldwide have undergone some form of genital mutilation. In connection with this, February 6 marks the World Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

• 1 in 5 girls has been married before the age of 18.

• Only 2/3 of developing countries have achieved gender equality within the education sector.

• 9 out of 10 adolescents in developing countries must settle for working in depressed sectors where they earn very little or even nothing, in addition to being subjected to mistreatment and labor exploitation.

Raising awareness about these issues will achieve the formation of citizens of the world who are much more committed to human dignity which begins with equality without any differences.

As a representative of Latin America, we have  lot of to do to face this reality. We must expand our commitment to raise awareness of, and address, the factors that keep girls from moving forward with the change that is needed.

Being part of the solution and the VOICE FOR OUR GIRLS IS THE MISSION. Thank you so much for this opportunity.

Día internacional de la niña

Nacer niña sigue siendo en muchos países una desventaja enorme frente a su par varón.

En este milenio encontrar un justificativo  esa conducta me resulta indignante.

Es como intentar decir que somos seres de diferente  especies aunque irónicamente los bebés niños nazcan de mujeres también.

Las niñas de todo el mundo siguen enfrentándose a retos sin precedentes en lo que respecta a su educación, bienestar físico y mental, y la protección necesaria para una vida libre de violencia. El COVID-19 ha empeorado las cargas existentes para estas y erosionado los importantes logros alcanzados en el último decenio.

La realidad de muchas niñas que carecen del derecho a la educación y que luego son abusadas sexualmente o casada siendo aún niñas o que sufren ablación de sus genitales es algo que debemos enfrentar y darle una solución definitiva.

Cuando las creencias afectan un derecho humano la educación debe ser la base del cambio.

Las estadísticas demuestran que: 

• Aproximadamente más de 200 millones de niñas y mujeres en todo el mundo han sufrido algún tipo de mutilación genital. En relación con esto, el 6 de febrero se celebra el Día Mundial de Tolerancia Cero a la Mutilación Genital Femenina.

• 1 de cada 5 niñas ha contraído matrimonio antes de los 18 años de edad.

• Solamente 2/3 de los países en desarrollo han logrado la igualdad de género dentro del sector educativo.

• 9 de cada 10 adolescentes en países en desarrollo se deben conformar con trabajar en sectores deprimidos donde cobran muy poco e incluso nada, además de ser sometidas a maltrato y explotación laboral.

Generar conciencia sobre estas temáticas logrará formar ciudadanos del mundo muchos más comprometidos con la dignidad humana que comienza con la igualdad sin ningún tipo de diferencias.

COMO REPRESENTANTE DE LATlNOAMÉRICA TENEMOS MUCHO QUE HACER PARA ENFRENTAR ESTA REALIDAD. Debemos ampliar nuestro compromiso para sensibilizar, y abordar, sobre los factores que hacen que las niñas no puedan seguir avanzando en el cambio que se necesita.
